4.3.4 Frame/enclosure inspection. Place the fan unit in the standard test setup with the top
shroud removed. Turn the electric heater on to obtain a base temperature of 580 to 600°F.
Allow the fan to operate for 30 minutes. The handle shall remain cool enough for removal with a
bare hand without causing burns or discomfort.
4.3.5 Temperature resistance inspection. Place a fan unit in an oven set at 300°F. Maintain
the oven at 300°F ± 10°F for 60 minutes. Remove the fan unit and allow it to cool to room
temperature. Perform a functional test per 4.3.3 at 600°F test base temperature only. The fan
shall meet the air flow requirement of Table I after temperature resistance testing.
4.3.6 Reliability test. Place two fan units in the standard test setup per 4.3.3. Conduct the
test by operating each fan unit with the test base temperature between 580 and 600°F for a period
of 590 hours each (1,180 cumulative). The test period does not have to be continuous, it may be
comprised of any number of operating cycles, however, the total number of operational hours at
the specified base temperature shall equal or exceed hours 590 hours for each unit. After 590
hours of operation, perform a functional test per 4.3.3 at 600°F test base temperature only.
Failure of the fan unit to meet a minimum 90 percent of the air flow requirements of Table I at
600°F test base temperature (360 cfm) shall constitute a test failure. Verification of motor life
shall be accomplished by inspection and approval of manufacturer's test method, data, and
certification, and shall be a minimum of 4,000 hours.
4.3.7 Safety inspection. Observe test records and performance of all test and inspections
within this performance specification. There shall be no injury to personnel or damage to
equipment or property resulting from testing.
4.3.7.1 Sharp edges inspection. Inspect the fan unit and accessories to verify there are no
exposed sharp edges.
