MIL-PRF-32001
4.3.7.2 Moving parts inspection. Inspect the fan unit and verify that there is no exposure of
any moving parts. Visually inspect for presence of finger guards and run a 0.75 inch diameter
metal sphere over finger guards. The sphere shall not pass through the finger guards.
4.3.7.3 Safety label inspection. Verify that the fan unit contains an easily readable safety label
which states "CAUTION: ROTATING FAN".
4.4 Support or ownership requirements verification.
4.4.1 Weight inspection. Weigh the fan unit and transport case. The fan unit shall weigh less
than 15 pounds, the case shall weigh less than 10 pounds.
4.4.2 Handle inspection. Verify presence of carrying handle(s) on the fan and case. Verify
handles are rounded for bare-handed use and have sufficient clearance for use with cold weather
gloves (NSN 8415-01-310-7338).
4.4.3 Transportability.
4.4.3.1 Vibration test. Subject one fan unit configured inside a transport storage case to
basic transportation vibration test IAW the requirements and conditions set forth in
MIL-STD-810, Method 514.4, Category 1.
Mount the transport storage case with the fan unit inside to the vibration table and instrument
with a triaxial accelerometer mounted on the case. Subject the case and fan unit to the vibration
environments in all three mutually perpendicular axes (vertical, transverse, and longitudinal).
Test for 32 minutes in the two wheel trailer spectra and 40 minutes for the composite vehicle
spectra for a total of 72 minutes of vibration in each of the three axes. Upon completion of the
216 minutes of testing, perform a visual check and a functional test on the fan unit per 4.3.3 at
600°F test base temperature only. Failure to meet the air flow requirement in Table I at 600°F
test base temperature shall constitute a test failure. If the fan unit used in the vibration test was
previously subjected to reliability testing, then it must produce a minimum 90% of the air flow
listed in Table 1 at 600 °F test base temperature.
4.4.3.2 Shock test. Subject a fan unit configured inside of a transport storage case to drop
testing IAW the requirements and conditions set forth in MIL-STD-810, Method 516.4,
Procedure IV.
Suspend the transport storage case with the fan unit inside by a drop hook 30 inches from the
impact surface. Trigger the drop hook allowing the fan unit to free fall to the drop surface. The
