2.3 Order of precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the
references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document,
however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been
obtained.
3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to a first article
inspection in accordance with 4.1.1.
3.2 Conformance. Items furnished under this specification shall be subjected to conformance
inspection in accordance with 4.1.2.
3.3 Operating requirements.
3.3.1 Controls and indicators. The fan unit shall not require, nor contain, any user interface
device to regulate the operation of the unit.
3.3.2 Internal power system. The fan unit shall contain an internal power supply system that
operates silently, contains no moving parts, and requires no adjustments for operation. The
internal power system shall provide all necessary power to operate the fan unit from conversion of
heat energy from the heater surface. No external power source shall be required. The power
system shall require no recharging, refueling, or replacement.
3.3.3 Air flow. The self-powered fan unit shall produce a downward air flow within five
minutes of being placed on the surface of an operating tent heater. The fan unit shall produce air
flows at the rates specified in Table I when tested as specified.
