MIL-PRF-32001
drop surface shall be a 2 inch thick plywood surface backed by concrete. A total of three drops
from various orientations shall be completed.
Upon completion of the drop test, perform a visual inspection of the case and fan unit. Perform a
functional test on the fan unit per 4.3.3 at 600°F test base temperature only. The fan unit shall
meet the air flow requirement of Table I. If the fan unit used in the shock test was previously
subjected to reliability testing, then it shall produce a minimum 90% of the air flow listed in Table
1. The transport storage case shall open and close properly and continue performing its intended
duty after drop testing.
4.4.4 Maintenance inspection. Perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services
(PMCS) on the fan unit to include observation of the fan blade and verify that if foreign matter
were present and in the path of the fan blade, that it could be removed easily without the need for
disassembly. A thorough examination shall not exceed 1 minute.
4.4.5 Identification and marking inspection. Verify that the fan unit contains an easily
readable nameplate marked with the National Stock Number, the contract number, and the
manufacturer's name and part number.
4.5 Environmental requirements verification.
4.5.1 Salt fog test. Test a properly functioning fan unit and transport case (separately) IAW
the requirements and conditions set forth in MIL-STD-810, Method 509.3. Provide 48 hours of
salt fog exposure, followed by 48 hours of dry out. Perform a visual check of the fan unit and
case. There shall be no evidence of peeling, blistering paint, possible electrical shorts or
impairment due to salt deposits, evidence of deterioration, clogging or binding of moving parts, or
change in tolerance limits of any internal or external parts which could prevent the unit from
meeting operational and maintainability requirements. Minor oxidation, which can easily be
removed is permissible, provided performance of the part is not adversely effected. Perform a
functional check of the fan unit per test outlined in 4.3.3 at 600°F test base temperature only. The
fan shall meet the airflow requirement of Table I.
4.5.2 Wind/rain test. Subject the fan unit from the salt fog testing (if properly functioning)
configured inside a transport storage case to wind/rain testing IAW the requirements and
conditions set forth in MIL-STD-810, Method 506.3, Procedure I - Blowing Rain. Provide 4
in/hr of rain along with 40-45 mph winds for 32 minutes (8 minutes per side). Remove the fan
unit from the transport storage case and inspect for water penetration. There shall be no more
than 1ounce total of water inside the case.
4.5.3 Storage test. Subject one fan unit to testing IAW the requirements and conditions set
